A vegan diet can be one of the healthiest ways to eat. It's based on whole, unrefined plant foods, and it excludes all animal products, including meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy.
The vegan diet is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. It's been linked with a lower risk of heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and some forms of cancer.
But a vegan diet isn't automatically healthy. Make sure you are consuming all the nutrients your body needs. And some people may need to supplement their diet with vitamins B12 and D.
If you're thinking about going vegan, here's a vegan meal plan to get you started.
